Frequently Asked Questions

Short answers to common questions. Each one links to the full step-by-step guide.

How do I add books to a library?

Skoolib offers several ways to add a book, so you can pick whichever is fastest for what is in front of you:

  • Scan the barcode — quickest for a physical book with an ISBN barcode.
  • Search online — look the title up and pull in its details automatically.
  • Enter the ISBN — useful when the barcode will not scan.
  • Add manually — for items with no ISBN at all.

See Add a book for the web app, or Add for the mobile app. Not every method is available on both platforms.

How do I lend a book and track its return?

Check the item out to a member, set a due date, and add a note if you need one. The loan is then tracked until the book is returned.

Full walkthrough: Loan.

Can someone reserve a book that is already on loan?

Yes. A hold can be placed on a book that is currently on loan or that already has other holds queued against it. You can also place one from the Book Holds section in the menu bar — the actions stay in sync either way.

Holds can also be suspended for a set period.

See Hold — the most detailed guide on this site.

What is the difference between an online and an offline member?

Only online members can be given access and management permissions. Offline members are records in your library without an account attached.

This matters most when importing: members added through the CSV import are created as offline members, so you must change a member’s status to online before you can grant them permissions.

See Import members from a CSV file.

How do I control what each librarian can do?

Permissions are handled through roles. When you add a role you give it a name, a description, a hierarchy, and its update permissions, then assign it to a member.

See Role and Manage user.

How do I share my library with other people?

You can share an individual book through the three-dot menu on the book’s detail page, or publish a link to a whole library, a tag, or an organization. Published tag links can be unpublished again later.

See Sharing.

How do I export or back up my data?

A library can be exported to a file from the sharing options, and Skoolib also supports importing data back in.

See Data safety and Export a library.

How do I change my subscription plan?

Go to Settings > Billing, where your current plan, billing period, and AI credit are shown, then choose Change Plan and select the plan you want.

See Change plan.

How do I print barcode labels?

Skoolib can generate barcodes for the items in your collection so you can print labels and scan them later.

See Barcode generate.
